Black Cats (Royal Navy)

The Black Cats is the helicopter aerobatic team of the Royal Navy.

History

The Black Cats were founded in 2001. By 2004, the squadron had no official name, it was simply known in the first three years as Lynx Pair. The Cats fly two helicopters of the type Sea Lynx, which are actually used for antisubmarine warfare. The machines and relay members are made from 702 Naval Air Squadron, which is stationed at the Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton, Yeovil.

The team won the Royal International Air Tattoo 2003, the Steadman Sword for the best performance of a British participant.

The Black Cats are the successors of the 1992 resolution aerobatic team The Sharks, the four Aérospatiale SA 341/342 inserting.
