Black Forest Academy

The Black Forest Academy ( BFA ) is a private English boarding school with a Christian world view in Kandern. Founded in 1956 by the missionary work Janz Team, it is today the organization TeachBeyond belonging and teaches over 300 students, mostly children from international missionary and business families.


In 1956, the Janz Team for the children of its employees in Basel a school that allowed a school with a Christian foundation of values ​​. At steady increase in the number of pupils, the school was eventually moved in 1965 to Lörrach in Germany, in 1972 after Sitzenkirch and 1984 to Kandern.

Currently, the Black Forest Academy, some 300 students, most of whom belong to the so-called Third Culture Kids whose parents are missionary or business in more than 45 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Counts In addition to the approximately 150 boarding students who are housed in eight residences in and around Kandern, more students come from the area, including the nearby neighboring countries of France and Switzerland.
