Background

Production

Already in January 2006 it was announced that the band had begun work on new songs. However, at this time, the band put no release date in order not to fall into time pressure during production. As on all AC / DC albums since The Razors Edge in 1990, the Young brothers were exclusively involved in writing the new song material, even if Brian Johnson sold two years earlier in an interview that he also on new songs with the Young would write brothers. They worked intensively than ever to the songs, which is why it has finally taken nearly three years to the album was released for publication. Already on August 15, two months before Black Ice came on the market, the group turned in London a music video for the first single Rock ' n' Roll Train, three days later, the band announced on their website the release date of the new album known.

Musical Style

Musically, there are some special features Black Ice to mention. So Angus Young used in the song Stormy May Day for the first time in a studio recording a so-called bottleneck. Unusually are also the vocal lines from singer Brian Johnson, the show mainly to Anything Goes unfamiliar melodies. Furthermore, AC / DC set again reinforced a percussion instruments such as shakers ( Big Jack ), or tambourine ( Anything Goes ). Such sounds, they have mainly used for titles of the first albums often (eg, It's a Long Way to the Top ). Anything Goes poses as a further special keyboard- like sequences of the guitar.

In June 2008 it was announced that the album would be available in the U.S. exclusively through Wal -Mart. In order to meet the onslaught, the Wal- Mart Group, which sold the only album, Black Ice own small shops has opened in its stores. Reviews

Michael Pilz sees the world in the tradition of those considered classic albums Highway to Hell and Back in Black Black Ice in the online edition of the German daily newspaper. In terms of typical elements of the AC / DC - style, he writes:

" It's all there: the carefully read A - chord riffs and pumping on the root bass. The screeching songs about proverbial fires, playing cards and railways. "

Christian Schachinger from the Austrian daily Der Standard describes the new album as well, mutatis mutandis, than what one is used to from AC / DC, by designating the music as " exciting as well known ." He continues:

" It may also be so creep into choral and withdrawn menem pace something like age clemency. This music was always here. It is and remains: unteachable! Rocking All the Way. "

Andreas Sky Stone by Rock Hard magazine awarded in the category " dynamite " 8.5 out of a possible ten points and came to the following conclusion:

" When one of the most reliable constants in the rock'n'roll circus has a new album at the start, it's not really about the question of what is published, but when it is published. The fact that AC / DC are not bring out more classics in the style of Back in Black or Highway to Hell, there is no question - as an album would probably be expected by virtually no one. So we restrict ourselves to comparisons with the past the band's albums, and here Black Ice has the edge. The guitar work is traditionally advised Brian's voice sounds much stronger, the sound is a bit warmer and earthy - and in my opinion Black Ice comes up with a more typical AC / DC groove on as Ballbreaker or Stiff Upper Lip. The boys had been allowed to unpack more often for my taste, quiet times, the slide guitar as in Stormy May Day, and the bottom strings at the beginning of Rocking All the Way Brian Johnson are absolutely to shame. Along with the Rose Tattoo moderate and catchy Anything Goes are then found, surprisingly, but so what as little surprise moments. "
