The Crno Jezero ( German " Black Lake ") is a glacial lake in northern Montenegro. The lake lies at an altitude of 1416 m, about 3 km west of Zabljak.

Geography

The Crno Jezero is situated at the foot of Medjed, a peak of Durmitormassives. It occupies an area of ​​about 500 ha. The lake is just taken from two lakes, the Veliko Jezero and Malo Jezero the (literally: Great Lake and Small Lake ). The two lakes are connected by a narrow waterway, which falls during the dry summer months, so that two separate bodies of water occur.

  • The Veliko Jezero covers an area of ​​0.338 km ², has a maximum depth of 24.5 m, a maximum length of 855 m and maximum width of 615 m.
  • The Malo Jezero covers an area of ​​0.177 km ², has a maximum depth of 49.1 m, a maximum length of 605 m and maximum width of about 400 m.

The maximum length of the entire Crno Jezero is 1,155 m. Because of its greater depth of the so-called Little Lake actually has the greater volume.

The Crno Jezero is fed by numerous mountain streams, of which the Mlinski creek (literally: Mühlbach ) is the most significant tributary. More feeds occur only seasonally during the spring thaw and are mostly unnamed. Outflow of Crno Lake is the Otaka.

Touristic development

The Crno Lake is a very popular destination in the Durmitor area. He is one of the largest and most famous glacial lakes of Durmitor massif. The lake is easily accessible and within walking distance from the center of Zabljak from. A 3.5 km long road circles the entire lake and is a popular destination for holidaymakers and walkers. The Crno Lake is the starting point of many hiking trails in the Durmitor massif and to the smaller lakes around Zabljak. Set back from the shore of the lake there is a restaurant which serves traditional Montenegrin cuisine.
