Features
The 16 cm long Schwarzkopf Phoebe tyrant is largely colored black, belly and rump are white only. The upright posture of the seated bird and the long, stilted tail are additional features.
Occurrence
The bird lives in open areas near water from the southwest of North America via Central America to Bolivia and northwestern Argentina.
Behavior
The Schwarzkopf Phoebe tyrant peeking from a waiting near the water out after insects that it hunts in flight. Occasionally, he also catches small fish in shallow water.
Reproduction
In a cup nest from lumps of clay and grass, which is often built on a clifftop near water, two to six eggs are incubated for two to three weeks. With three weeks, the young birds fledge. Often the bird breeds twice a year.
