Black River is a Jamaican town at the mouth of the eponymous river in the Black River Black River Bay. The municipality with 4,200 inhabitants, is the capital of Saint Elizabeth Parish. Most important sources of revenue are tourism and the timber industry.

The city was founded in the 17th century quickly an important seaport for shipping of the crops grown in the hinterland sugar. Waterloo House 1893 was the first electrified Jamaican house. The owner of Waterloo House was also the first who imported a car on the island.

Black River is surrounded by a bog, which is important habitat for several endangered creatures.
