Blackall, Queensland

Blackall is a small town in Queensland, Australia, about 1100 km west of the capital Brisbane. The city lies on the Barcoo River and had 1,160 inhabitants in 2006.

It is the administrative center of the Blackall - Tambo Regional Council, which is determined by the extensive grazing, especially by sheep. The most famous inhabitant was the shearer Jack Howe. In 1892 he sheared 321 sheep in 7 hours and 40 minutes with a normal pair of scissors. A record that was broken only with the invention of the electric scissors 1950.
