Blackthorn is a Spanish -produced Western to the legendary figure of Butch Cassidy, which is interpreted by Sam Shepard. Mateo Gil directed the film in 2010 largely on location in Bolivia.
Action
James Blackthorn, an old gringo who lives peacefully in the valleys of Bolivia. He breeds horses and is in a relationship with a native. He realizes that he is getting old and wants at home, spending in the United States, his last years. His real name is Butch Cassidy; the people who even remember at this legendary outlaws, consider him dead
When he crosses the plateau on its way to the old home, he meets a Spanish mining engineer, much younger than he who is on the run after a mine robbery. Because he needs money, Blackthorn accompanied him on his flight across Bolivia. In the hardness and solitude of the desert, the men become friends. But they are hunted, and when they are placed in the no man's land of the border by many armed men, they must reveal their true motivations.
Criticism
"The film is less interested in narrative or even on action than on Demonstrate the wonderful Bolivian widths and the presentation of Sam Shepard's grizzled, laconic presence. " Writes the Hollywood Reporter. Variety also found for the "classic minimalist Western " words of praise.

Awards
2012 Blackthorn received at the presentation of the Spanish Goya Film Awards eleven nominations. The film won awards for camera, scene image ( Juan Pedro de Gaspar ), costumes ( Clara Bilbao) and film producer.
