Bladensburg is a town in Prince George's County in the U.S. state of Maryland with 7661 inhabitants ( 2000). It lies on the Anacostia River, a tributary of the Potomac River.
History
Bladensburg was established in the colonial era and was a thriving seaport until deposits in the Anacostia River restricting its navigability. Achieved historic importance of the place in the British -American War through the Battle of Bladensburg on August 24, 1814, in the British troops defeated a numerically superior American Army militia and then Washington DC burned.
In the 1990s, comprehensive efforts to a renewal of the city took place in cooperation with other historic port cities as part of a so-called "Port Towns Revitalization Initiative", which inter alia, the infrastructure is improving, historic buildings restored and put to new and the old harbor front of the city was reconstructed.
