Blair House

The Blair House in Washington, D.C. (Address: 1651 Pennsylvania Avenue NW) serves as the official guest house of the U.S. president.

History

The building was built in 1824 in the Federal style. In 1942 it was bought by the U.S. government. Since then, it serves as accommodation for guests of the president, especially during state visits. Many presidents have spent the night before her inauguration at Blair House.

During the so-called Truman reconstruction ( 1948-1952 ), when the White House was rebuilt from the ground up, the working seat of government was at Blair House. In the 1980s, the house was renovated and expanded.

The Blair House got its name from politicians and journalists Francis Preston Blair sen. (1791-1876), who bought the building in 1836. It's since October 26, 1973 National Historic Landmark.
