Structures

Above the village is the Blankenheim castle from the 12th century. It is now used as a youth hostel. As part of the government takeover of the Counts of Manderscheid on Blankenheim Castle in 1468 structural changes were made. Count Dietrich III. had a long-distance water supply build the castle, which had to be performed under the " Tiergarten " mountain in a tunnel to keep gradient. The tunnel is the only of the late Middle Ages throughout Europe known. The massive construction of the castle dominates the picture of Blankenheim.

The medieval town center offers remains of the fortifications ( Georgstor of 1670, Hirtenturm of 1404), some half-timbered houses and the parish church of St. Assumption ( completed 1505). Also worth seeing is the Grade II listed Chapel of the Cross.
