Blanquefort (Gironde)

Blanquefort is a French town with 15,106 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. The city is located in the district of Bordeaux and is the capital (French: chef- lieu) of its own canton.

Blanquefort is located northwest of Bordeaux and is crossed by the river Jalle. The community belongs to the community association Communauté Urbaine de Bordeaux and is accessible by bus lines of the TBC. By the end of the Second World War the town was connected to the former tram network of Bordeaux.

  • The church Saint -Martin was built in 1806-1816; the tower was burned by lightning in 1823 and restored in 1827.
  • The church of Saint Joseph in the community part Caychac was built in 1867/68.
  • The ruins Blanquefort dates from the 11th to 15th centuries.
  • The Dillon castle dates from the 17th/18th. Century.
  • The Dulamon castle was built in the late 17th century to early 18th century. Since 1984, it is Monument historique.
  • The Parc de Majolan with caves and ponds was created end of the 19th century. It has an area of 20 hectares.
