Blasius Merrem

Blasius Merrem ( born February 4, 1761 Bremen, † February 23, 1824 in Marburg ) was a German biologist.

The merchant's son Merrem first widmetet particularly the study of languages ​​(Arabic, Latin, Greek ). After joining the University of Göttingen in 1778 he became a pupil of Johann Friedrich Blumenbach and began to take an interest in general and ornithology and herpetology in particular of Zoology. He taught most recently as a professor at the Universities of Duisburg and finally Marburg.
