Blaundos

Blaundos (Greek Βλαῦνδος ) was an ancient town on the border between the Anatolian landscapes Lydia and Phrygia. Its ruins are located about 20 km south of Usak in the present-day village Sülümenli in Turkey.

From the history little is known only during the Hellenistic city emerges on coins, but still under the name Mlaundos. Obviously Macedonian mercenaries were settled in the city. 188 BC Blaundos fell under the jurisdiction of Pergamon, by which Rome is 133 BC inherited. At the end of the Roman civil war veterans were probably settled in Blaundos.

From Neronian period up to the reign of Maximinus Thrax impressed again Blaundos own coins.

The ruins of Blaundos are worth today. In addition to a city gate and remains of the city wall remains of a stone half-timbered building are still preserved, Theater, Stadium and individual temples are still visible. Blaundos 2000-2002 was examined in a survey of the German Archaeological Institute, which stated, inter alia, that Blaundos in the 4th century received extensive fortifications, which enclosed about half of the imperial city. However, this reduction was not a sign of economic decline, as the elaborate show houses within the town walls. It was only in the 6th century, the settlement changed; the residential development in the city was small-scale, existing buildings were exploited for spoils.
