Blåvand Lighthouse

P4

Blåvandshuk Fyr is the most westerly lighthouse in Denmark and is on the same headland Blåvands Huk on the west coast of Jutland. The lighthouse warns of the dangerous maritime Horns Rev. It replaced in 1900 a smaller predecessor from 1888.

The square, tapered tower was built of concrete, measures 39 meters and has two cantilevered upper floors of the tower shaft. The frieze on the base floor is sold in red brick of the whitewash.

The rotating lens was originally powered by a movement that has been preserved. Meanwhile, the light source and the lens drive are electrified, the beacon operates automatically. With the 1,000 -watt lamp and the Fresnel lens 180 000 candelas and a scope of 22 nautical miles can be achieved.

The lighthouse can be visited all year round. 170 steps lead to the observation deck. In the former lighthouse keeper's house a tourist information center and an exhibition on the Horns Rev wind farm are housed.
