Blavet

The Blavet in Pontivy

The Blavet is a coastal river in Brittany, in the west of France.

Geography

The source of the Blavet is located in the municipality of Bourbriac. It flows through the departments of Côtes- d'Armor and Morbihan and ends after 149 kilometers at Port-Louis in the Atlantic Ocean. It feeds on its way to lakes

  • Etang du Blavet
  • Etang du - cores Uhel
  • Reservoir Guerlédan

Shipping

The river was channeled through locks and is therefore suitable in its lower reaches for shipping. Today there are still 28 locks between Pontivy and the mouth in operation. North of Pontivy is the Blavet part of the Canal de Nantes à Brest, but the direction of Brest can not be driven. On this channel you can, however, go further east, for example, to Rohan and Redon. Below Hennebont the river is affected by tides and is one of the seaways.
