Bleaker Iceland (Spanish Isla María ) is an island of the Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic. Bleaker Iceland is located southeast of East Falkland. The name is a corruption of the previous designation " Breaker Iceland " (crushers island ) because the waves breaking on the island.

Geography

Bleaker Iceland is a long narrow island about 2070 hectares, 19 km long and 2.5 km wide. The longest and most beautiful beach is 2 km long, Sandy Bay. The coasts are dominated by small cliffs and various beach types.

Flora and Fauna

The northern half of the island is a nature reserve officially excellent. Bleaker Iceland offers many animal species a protected habitat. 49 bird species have been cataloged, 37 of which breed on the island, including Magellanic and Gentoo penguins. In addition, you will also find many blue-eyed shags and rockhopper penguins.

It also a total of 79 plant species were recorded, including Cypripedioideae and other orchids and tussock grass.
