Bledzew

Bledzew ( German Blesen ) is a village of 1,200 inhabitants in Poland. It is located 15 km north- west of Międzyrzecz at the Obra and belongs to the powiat Międzyrzecki in the Lubusz Voivodeship.

History

Between 1231 and 1239 brought the Duke of Greater Poland, Władysław Odon, Cistercian from Lusatia in the country and gave them land at the Obra for reclamation. As the area had come to the beginning of the 14th century, Brandenburg, Margrave Waldemar gave the village and its surroundings Blesowe the monastery Semmritz.

1326 came back to Blesen Wielkopolska. King Casimir Jagiellonicus gave the place in 1458, the Magdeburg Law. In one issued on November 21, 1493 by King John I. Albrecht privilege of the name of the town Bledzewo alias Szombritz is. The town charter was the abbatial Mediatstadt in the years 1565, 1619 and 1767 on several occasions.

The German -speaking city Blesen had a regular rectangular plan and had two large marketplaces, but no city fortifications. The inhabitants lived on the cloth-making, brewing, craft and fruit cultivation.

After the Cistercian monastery Semmritz had shifted his seat since the beginning of the 15th century more and more to Blesen, 1578 was the task of the monastic buildings in Semmritz.

1835 was the secularization of the monastery. The monastic property in 1842 for 5,000 rounds with the proviso demolish all the monastic buildings including the abbey church auction. The cultural heritage of the monastery were spent in the town church.

In 1793 Blesen came to Prussia. From 1818 it belonged to the circle Birnbaum and 1887-1945 in the district of Schwerin.

After the Second World War Blesen was part of Poland again and lost on August 30, 1945 its charter. The almost exclusively German -speaking population was expelled in the years 1945 to 1947.
