Blind arcade

A blind arcade, also wall arcade, is an ornament to buildings. Through them, the smooth surface of a wall by intimating an arcade is loosened. However, in contrast to this, the blind arcade has no breakthroughs, the sheets are only hinted at. A single such decorative bow is called blind arch.

Blind arcades are part mainly in the Romanesque and Gothic architecture. Models, however, are to be found among the Romans. A special form of blind arcade is the frieze.
