Blind arch

A blind arch (rarely also blind arch ) is an arch on a wall through which one can not pass. He is a typical architectural feature of the Romanesque. He has less static meaning, but serves mainly the aesthetic structure of facades.

If there are several blind arches side by side one also speaks of blind arcades. When blind arch frieze, the wall is usually structured by upstream pilasters, engaged columns or pilasters.
