Block quotation

A block quotation is a typographic representation of a quote in which a longer passage quoted is identified as a separate paragraph.

Thus, it can be better than the interspersed into the text short quote perceive. While individual words to one or a few sentences is clearly visible where the quoted range ends where perhaps an editorial remark was interspersed between two quotes, with long sequences of text is the closing quote hard to find.

Features

Requirements:

They usually recommend to use the block quotation if the quotation has a length of 40 words ( in German) or have more than two lines. For consistency across a range of text, it may be useful in a particular case, then format and shorter quotes also as a block quote.

Seen Uneven is the question of whether the block quotation is enclosed in quotation marks.

  • For typographic point of view they are redundant; the quote character is already clear beyond doubt from the specific formatting and usually also from the introductory words and the source is acknowledged. This is especially common in Anglo-American area.
  • It is also advantageous that the plane of the quotation is not changed; So that must be made from double single quotes, for that single quotes no " third level " must be found.

HTML

In the hypertext markup language, there is the element

to display such text passages.

Example

A case with bilateral engagement, somewhat reduced font, without quotes. On extra-wide screen windows, it may be necessary to slightly narrower to drag the window.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consetetur sadipscing elitr, sed diam nonumy eirmod tempor ut labore et dolore magna invidunt aliquyam erat, sed diam voluptua. At vero eos et justo duo dolores et accusam et ea rebum. Stet clita kasd gubergren.

The above text has a length of 40 words. Subsequently (ie line length for the main text) again follows the normal width according to the type area.
