Blohm & Voss BV 246

The Blohm & Voss BV developed by 246 (nicknamed Hailstone ) was a remote- glide bomb in World War II that could be dropped by fighter aircraft on point targets ( bridges, ships, etc.). The construction of the BV 246 was very simple in order to facilitate mass production.

She had a simple aerodynamics and possessed wings of great length ( this allowed for a glide ratio of 1:25 ). The tail was initially crosswise in later versions of an H-shape. With a drop from a height of 10,500 meters, a range of 210 km was achieved. The total mass was 730 kg which 435 kg of explosives.

The Air Ministry first awarded the designation BV 226 BV 246 series production then test vehicle were the Heinkel He 111 and Focke -Wulf Fw 190 F -8.
