Blohm & Voss P.170

The Blohm & Voss P 170 was the project for a two-seat fighter aircraft of the Hamburger Flugzeugbau Blohm & Voss.

Construction

The three-engine design was created in 1942 under the direction of Richard Vogt, however, never came on the stage of the project also. Although the machine - in contrast to other designs of the designer - had a symmetric structural design of the fuselage and wings, she seemed quite unusual. This was primarily the far forwardly disposed, rectangular wings at. In addition to the engine in the fuselage nose, the other two engines were mounted on the wingtips in engine nacelles. These gondolas also wore the rudder. The crew sat very far back in front of the tail in elongated cylindrical body.

The machine should be of three 1600 hp BMW 801D payable are driven, which had a three-blade propeller with 3.5 meters diameter each. Each motor was fed from a separate fuel tank with 2,000 liters. The two outer engines were shooting in different directions to counteract the pressure developed during gleichsinnigem running torque forces and to generate additional lift. It provided a spur wheel chassis, each with a retractable wheel of the main landing gear in the fuselage and the two engine nacelles.

The design of a high speed should prevent interception by enemy fighters. A defensive armament was therefore considered unnecessary.
