Blondie Chaplin
Blondie Chaplin (born 7 July 1951, Durban, South Africa as Terence William Chaplin ) is a South African guitarist and singer who was 1972-1973 a band member of the Beach Boys.
Life
Chaplin grew up in a musical family and learned early to play the guitar. As a teenager he was a band member of The Flames of Ricky Fataar and his brothers. After two number 1 hits they left because of the restrictions imposed by the apartheid regime of South Africa and moved to London, where they performed in small clubs. There, the band of Al Jardine was discovered and invited by Carl Wilson to Los Angeles to shoot for Brother Records.
After two albums of The Flame, as they are now called, the band split up. Chaplin and Fataar then came to the Beach Boys, who needed new members after Bruce Johnston had gotten out of the band and Dennis Wilson had been seriously injured on his hand. Chaplin and Fataar contributed some songs on the Beach Boys album " So Tough " and " Holland" in and made for an R & B lastigeren sound. Chaplin was during a concert in New York fired in 1973 because he had with Stephen Love (Mike Loves brother), the manager of The Beach Boys created.
Chaplin took in 1977 on his first solo album Blondie Chaplin / rock and roll and toured with it. On the album the singer Clydie King and Venetta Field are listening to, which had already sung for the Rolling Stones on Exile on Main Street. A collaboration with David Johanson of the New York Dolls brought him to New York City. There he played in the band Skollie with Keith Lentin and Anton Fig and became friends with Keith Richards, but moved back to Los Angeles.
Because of his friendship with Richards he first played on the album with the Wingless Angels, as well as on Bridges to Babylon Rolling Stones. He also toured with the band and is therefore to listen to the live album No Security from the year 1998. During the recording sessions for Forty Licks he was equally present during the Forty Licks tour, on the album Live Licks was taken. Even with the Biggest Bang tour was Blondie Chaplin with the Stones on stage.
In addition, his second solo album Between Us appeared. He also played as a session musician for The Band, Joe Walsh, Bonnie Raitt and Charlie Watts / Jim Keltner Project ( 2000).
