Blood money (restitution)

" Blood money " in the New Testament

In the New Testament is the money that Judas received for betraying Jesus, as " blood money " (Greek τιμη αιματος = time haimatos, lat pretium sanguinis, literally bloody price, price of the blood) called (Mt 27.6 ). Such money could not be accepted as an offering by law altjüdischem by the priests. Here, however, it is not a blood money in the sense described above of retaliation law, but a bribe.

Trivia

The reparations that the Federal Republic of Germany had agreed by the Reparation Agreement of 1953, the Konrad Adenauer and David Ben Gurion, paid to Israel were initially occupied by Jewish critics with the derogatory term blood money.
