Blood–testis barrier

The blood - testis barrier is an effective barrier between the base of the seminiferous tubules ( seminiferous tubules ) located progenitors of sperm, spermatogonia, and located further inside the seminiferous tubules, more advanced germ cells ( spermatocytes and spermatids ).

The blood - testis barrier formed by the Sertoli cells. They are connected by sealing strips ( tight junctions ). This strip-shaped connections seal the interstitial gap, thus forming the blood- testis barrier.

The blood - testis barrier restricts the transport of materials from the edge to the interior of the seminiferous tubules, a strong and controlled him. The present in the meiotic germ cells and spermatogenesis are thereby protected from harmful substances and antibodies against one's own body.
