Blount County (Alabama)

The Blount County is a county located in the state of Alabama in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Oneonta. The County is a dry county so called, that is, that the sale of alcoholic beverages is restricted.

Geography

The County is located in north-central Alabama, is in the north about 100 miles from Tennessee to the East and about 100 km from Georgia and has an area of 1685 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Marshall County, Etowah County, St. Clair County, Walker County, Jefferson County and Cullman County.

History

Blount County was formed on February 6, 1818 from parts of Montgomery County and parts of the Cherokees belonging to the country. It was named after Willie Blount, the fourth Governor of Tennessee, which supported the new settlers in the wars of 1813-14 against the Creek. From 1818 to 1889 was Blountsville the county seat.

The average age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males to females age 18 and over, there 97.3 males.
