Blount County (Tennessee)
Blount County is a county located in the state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Marysville.
Geography
The County is located in Eastern Tennessee, bordering North Carolina and has an area of 1468 square kilometers, of which 21 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Knox County, Sevier County, Swain County ( North Carolina), Monroe County and Loudon County.
The County is located in the belonging to the Appalachian Mountains Great Smoky Mountains, whose distinctive peaks are within the County's Chilhowee Mountain and Thunderhead Mountain. Part of it is protected as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Fort Loudon Lake and Chilhowee Lake are lakes in the region, which is drained by the Little River and the Little Tennessee River and thus belongs to the catchment area of the Mississippi River.

History
Blount County was formed on July 11, 1795 from parts of Knox County. It was named after William Blount, a U.S. Senator from Tennessee and a member of the Constituent Assembly ( Constitunional Convention ) of North Carolina and signer of the Constitution of the United States.

According to the census in 2000 in Blount County 105 823 people living in 42 667 households, and 30,634 families. The population density was 73 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 94.73 percent White, 2.91 percent African American, 0.29 percent Native American, 0.72 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander, and 0.34 percent from other races groups; 0.99 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.06 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 42 667 households out of which 30.5 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.4 percent were married couples living together, 10.0 percent were single mothers and 28.2 percent were non-families. 24.4 percent of all households and 9.5 percent lived in persons aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average household size was 2.88 people.
22.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.3 percent between 18 and 24, 29.4 percent between 25 and 44, 25.4 percent between 45 and 64, and 14.1 percent were older than 65, the average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 93.8 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.8 males.
The median income for a household was $ 37,862, and the median income for a family was $ 45,038. Males have a median income of $ 31,877, women $ 23,007. The per capita income was $ 19,416. 7.3 percent of families and 9.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
