Blowzabella

Blowzabella is an English folk band, the hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, melodeons and plays numerous other acoustic instruments. The sound of her driving powerful dance music is based on the sound of drones, has been influenced by British and European traditional dance music and largely dispensed with rhythm imaging instruments such as percussion, drums etc. It is regarded as a style-forming band of European folk music, which has attracted many imitators according to.

History

The band was formed in 1978 ( London) by Bill O'Toole ( bagpipes, flutes ) from Sydney ( Australia), Jonathan Swayne ( bagpipes, flutes ) from Glastonbury, Dave Armitage ( melodeon, Bombard, percussion), Sam Palmer (bagpipe ) and Chris Gunstone ( bouzouki, Tapan - Central Asian frame drum ) was founded. The band's name comes from a popular dance piece in London from the late 17th century.

The musicians were either from London or lived there at that time. The first tunes were also of Juan Wijngaard ( hurdy-gurdy, Flemish bagpipe ) influences prevail. Bill O'Toole later returned to Australia, but Dave Roberts ( melodeon, percussion), Cliff Stapleton and Paul James ( bagpipes, saxophone) were added to the group. In this cast the first, as yet unnamed, album was recorded. Since then, the composition of the group has undergone numerous changes.

End of the nineties played alongside Paul James and Jon Swayne: Jo Freya (saxophone, vocals), Dave Shepperd ( violin), Ian Luff (bass, cittern ), Andy Cutting ( melodeon ) and Nigel Eaton ( hurdy-gurdy ). The band split up in 1990, but joined again together on appropriate occasions.

For the 25th band anniversary in 2003 it came to the official reunification. Grégory Jolivet replaced in the sequence Nigel Eaton, on Ian Luff followed Barn Stradling ( bass guitar).
