Blue Annals

The Blue Annals are one of the best known and most important works of traditional Tibetan history.

Structure and Content

The work consists of 15 chapters and 102 sections and represents mainly the spread of Buddhism in Tibet from the 11th to 15th centuries

History

The author Gö Lotsawa (1392-1481) completed the work in 1476th The first block print was created back in the early 1480s - years.

The English translation, which the Soviet Sinologist Ju. N. Rjorich developed with the help of the Tibetan scholar Gendun Chöpel, was a sensation for the western Tibetology and is still a classic.

The Chinese translation of Guo Heqing was founded in 1985 probably without the help of the English version of Rjorich.
