The chest band Kingfisher (Alcedo euryzona ) is a kingfisher species in Southeast Asia.

Features

The 17 cm long chest band Kingfisher is slightly larger than the occurring also in Europe Kingfisher Alcedo atthis. The males carry the eponymous blue breast band and a black beak. In the female the lower beak is reddish. Characteristics of Eisvogelart are also: a white throat, head and wing tops are dark blue, chest, belly and underwings are white or have a bright orange color.

Occurrence

The chest band Kingfisher is found in the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia. There are known two subspecies: The distribution area of A. e euryzona limited to the island of Java, while A. e peninsulae in Myanmar, is found on the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo.

Behavior and food

The chest band Kingfisher is a highseat. It feeds on small fish, crustaceans, insects and small reptiles.
