Blue Dog Coalition

The Blue Dog Coalition is an alliance of financial and socio-politically conservative set deputies of the Democratic Party in the United States. In the House, this group is organized as one of three major intra-party coalitions adjacent to the New Democrat Coalition and the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

The Blue Dog Coalition is comprised of conservative Democratic Congressman from all regions of the United States, a majority from the conservative southern states. Their political focus is on financial topics in which they represent a conservative viewpoint ( fiscal conservative ). You are trying to achieve a balanced budget and reduce the national debt. The Blue Dogs want to establish a bridge between the left and right positions in Congress. The Coalition was founded in 1994 when the 104th Congress introduced the Republicans for the first time since the 1950s, the majority of deputies in both chambers.

There are several explanations for the name. One of these is that the term blue dog on the first meeting of the group, offices of MPs from Louisiana, go back, in which images of the artist George Rodrigue Cajun - hung, had the Blue Dogs as a motive. Another refers to the saying that certain voters " would even choose a yellow dog if he anträte as a democratic candidate."

Blue Dogs are often responsible if the Democrats can win a mandate from the Republicans, such as 2004 in Kentucky. At the 2010 elections represented in the 111th Congress with 54 MPs Blue Dog Democrats lost many seats and were in the 112th Congress only represented by 26 deputies. The elections in 2012 reduced the number of Blue Dog Members once again almost by half to 14
