Blue Flame (car)
The Blue Flame is a rocket car. It was built by the Reaction Dynamics Inc., which was by Pete Farnsworth, Ray Dausman and Dick Keller founded ( from IIT). As the liquid fuel rocket engine used is a diergoles mixture of liquefied natural gas ( " LNG " ) and hydrogen peroxide. The visible behind the blue flame exhaust nozzle was the reason for the name "Blue Flame".
When searching for a driver Craig Breedlove was too expensive, and Chuck Suba crashed shortly afterwards during a race. So the Americans Gary Gabelich the driver was.
On 23 October 1970 he exhibited at the Bonneville Salt Flats with an average speed of about 1001.66 km / h (average of both directions: ( 617.601 mph 627.207 mph ): 2 = 622.404 mph ) to a new world record, which he 13 years held.
The vehicle is on display at the Auto and Technik Museum Sinsheim.
