Blue Lagoon National Park

The Blue Lagoon National Park is located 120 kilometers west of Lusaka in Zambia in the Kafue floodplains.

He has in its flat terrain, large herds of lechwe antelopes and a very large number of bird species (over 450 were counted ). The National Park covers 50,000 hectares.

The park was once a closed military zone. 1960 bought by the World Wildlife Fund, the area and founded two national parks on both sides of the floodplain. He initially pursued while animal welfare policy goals. Therefore, the park is touristy still in development stage. He offers various shelters and from 2007 also has a lodge.

On the opposite side of the Kafue River is the Lochinvar National Park. Both parks together form a unit, the " Kafue Flats" (about: Kafue Floodplain ') is called. Upstream of the dam is Itezhitezhi with the Kafue National Park. The dam also serves the purpose of keeping the water level in the Kafue Floodplain constant and to flood regularly.
