The Blue Mountains (French: Montagnes Bleues, Tuareg: Izouzadene or Izouzaoenehe ) are up to 921 m high foothills of the Aïr in Niger, which lies about 30 km east- north- east of the village Iférouane.

Geography

The Blue Mountains are located on the eastern edge of the high mountains in the desert Aïr Ténéré. They belong administratively to the Department Iférouane and are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Nature Reserve Aïr and Ténéré. In addition, they are in a Addax Sanctuary.

The characteristically designed cipollino blocks of the Blue Mountains are formed under high pressure and high temperatures of marine limestone. Your bluish shimmer in front of the orange desert sand has given the mountain its name. The shimmer is caused by proportions of various minerals, including mica and serpentine, and by breaking the light in the crystalline structure of the rock and a selective return beams of blue light portion.
