Blue Ridge Mountains

The Blue Ridge Mountains are a mountain range in the eastern U.S.. They are part of the Appalachian Mountains. The accompanying them to Mount Mitchell is with a height of 2037 m ( 6684 feet) the highest peak in North America east of the Mississippi.

On the Blue Ridge Mountains Blue Ridge Parkway runs. The Parkway runs in many parts along the ridges and was built during the Great Depression in 1935 as part of the New Deal by federal and state authorities with the assistance of the Works Progress Administration and the Civilian Conservation Corps.

In John Denver's song Take Me Home, Country Roads (1971 ), the Blue Ridge Mountains mentioned ( although the song refers mainly to West Virginia, which is hardly affected by this mountain range ). In addition, in this area plays the television series The Waltons.
