Blue Stream

Blue Stream (Russian Голубой поток, Turkish Mavi Akim, English Blue Stream ) is a pipeline to transport Russian gas under the Black Sea to Turkey. It is designed to transport 16 billion cubic meters of gas per year.

History

On 15 December 1997, the treaty between Russia and Turkey was closed, had the supply of 365 billion cubic meters of gas within 25 years to the content.

The pipeline was built for 2.7 billion euros of Gazprom, Eni and the Turkish state. As the owner of the running in the sea part was on 16 November 1999, registered in the Netherlands Blue Stream pipeline BV founded.

The underwater work lasted from September 2001 to June 2002. Its construction was finished in October 2002 and the first gas flowed in February 2003. The official opening took place in November 2005.

Was promoted 7 billion cubic meters of gas in 2006, which corresponded to 38% of the total quantity supplied by Gazprom to Turkey, there were 9.8 billion cubic meters (49%) in 2009.

In March 2009, Russia and Turkey agreed on the construction of a second pipeline called Blue Stream 2, intended to supply Israel, Lebanon, Syria and Cyprus with gas. According to Putin from the summer of 2010, Israel has discovered its own gas reserves, therefore, the gas supplies will not need, and probably gets no connection to the pipeline.

In September 2010, 51 billion cubic meters of gas had flowed through the pipeline.

Course

The gas pipeline is 1213 km long. The Russian part extends over 373 km on land, from the Stavropol region to the Krasnodar region. Then comes a 396 km long section of the sea, with depths reaching more than 2150 m. In Turkey, the pipeline begins in Samsun and ends after 444 km in Ankara
