Bluemont, Virginia

Bluemont is an unincorporated community in Loudoun County in the U.S. state of Virginia. Bluemont is Loudoun's westernmost village and is located near the free city of Round Hill on the Countygrenze for Clarke County.

The county town of Leesburg is 26 km away, the capital of Washington, DC is located approximately 95 kilometers east of Bluemont.

Bluemont was founded at the beginning of the 19th century under the name Snickersville and grew only slowly during the 19th century. During the Civil War a battle between the Confederate guerrilla leader John S. Mosby and Union troops took place near instead of Bluemont.

Bluemont was the head station of the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad. On July 4, 1900, the operation was extended to Bluemont. The village was touted as a cool refuge in the mountains for the heat- stricken Washington.
