The film explores the ethical issue of cloning and is a film adaptation of which won the German Youth Literature Prize book Blueprint author Charlotte Kerner.

Action

As the famous pianist Iris Sellin learns that she has an incurable nervous system disease multiple sclerosis, she turns up with a plan to the physician Mortimer Gabriel Fisher: He should clone so that their musical prowess is not lost by her death. Fishing can be a fact and so is Iris' daughter Siri, which is its clone at the same time, was born.

But when Siri finds at the age of 13 years that it is just a clone of her mother, breaks the hitherto carefree relationship between her and Iris. In the following years both try to interfere with each other in all aspects of life and to make life so unbearable.

To escape this misery, Siri moved to Canada to live a lonely life beyond civilization there. But when she gets to know the charming architect Greg, this is able to bring love back into her life and even to smooth things over between Siri and her mother.

Differences from the book

A completely new character named Greg Lucas is recorded in the movie into the action with. It supports Siri in the present during their stay in Canada. In the book, Siri binds at the Mother's Day concert only a yellow ribbon around, which is rather unremarkable. In the film she attaches itself for all to see a Star of David on, stands on the clone.

In the film pulls Siri, after it has completely separated from her mother, to Canada and animal photographer. There she photographed elk. In the book, she is an artist and lives in Hamburg. That is in the film a much greater distancing from Iris takes place both in the choice of employment, and in the choice of location.

In addition, the scientists Martin Fischer has (in the book Mortimer Fisher) more on visitation rights and makes cloning only during Siris 13 years of age in public.

Criticism

" Oscillating between the history of egocentric mother and the rebellious daughter of the double lead role to the supporting roles superb cast, and played film about the psychologically balanced portrayal of the mother-daughter conflict does not come out. The ethical problems of genetic engineering, which acts as a foil for the plight of the individual, he will meet only the start. "
