Blues Music Award

The Blues Music Awards are the highest honor of the Blues Foundation, an organization to promote the blues and its heritage. They are awarded annually since 1980 in Memphis for special contributions to the blues. Many of the awards are regarded as the highest award that can get in the U.S., a blues musician.

From 1995 to 2005, the awards were called officially WC Handy Blues Awards, by WC Handy, the "Father of the Blues". Since 2006, the official name Blues Music Awards. In the years before the prices operating under the National Blues Music Awards (1980 and 1982 ), Blues Awards ( 1981), Annual Blues Awards ( 1983-1987, 1989-1990), Annual Blues Music Awards (1988) and Annual Blues Awards - The Cell Phones (1991) and Annual Blues Music Awards - The phones ( 1992-1994). As a short form of place hence the term phone for a Blues Music Award use.

Much like the Grammys, the mobile phones will be awarded in various categories, such as " Blues Album of the Year ", " Blues Entertainer of the Year ", " Blues Song of the Year " and so on. From five nominees of the winners of each category determined.

The award winners are nominated by a committee composed of representatives from various professional groups that are associated with the blues. They are selected by members of the Blues Foundation, with the regional distribution is taken into account. The majority comes from the U.S., but there are also nominators from Canada, Europe and Central America. The final vote is carried out by the members of the Blues Foundation.
