Blunk

Blunk is a municipality in the district of Segeberg in Schleswig-Holstein.

Geography and transport

Blunk is a Rundling village is 9 km north of Bad Segeberg on the southwestern edge of the Holstein Switzerland nature park. 3 km west of the main road 404/Bundesautobahn 21 of Bad Segeberg runs to Kiel, 10 km south runs the federal highway 206 from Bad Segeberg to Lübeck. From 1911 to 1961, Blunk station on the narrow gauge railway Kiel Segeberg.

The place Blunk is on a hill, is situated at the eastern side in a forest and meadow landscape embedded Blunker lake. At the western edge of the district Blunk is a lowland area, by which once the limit Saxoniae, the Saxons Wall ran. This was built around 810 by the Saxons to protect against the Slavic Abodrites in eastern Schleswig -Holstein.

History

The place was described by Adam of Bremen around 1075 in the description of Saxony Walls as Bulilunkin and mentioned as Bolunke in a document of the Bishopric of Lübeck on March 27, 1249. From 1342 there was a grain mill, in which the farmers had to leave grind their grain.

Because of several, partly serious fires in the late 19th century, today only little old buildings to be found.

The Church in Blunk was built in 1965. It has been torn down but 2010 and the land was transferred to private ownership.

From December 1911 to December 1961 was Blunk station of Kiel Segeberger railroad. After adjustment of the railway operation the tracks were dismantled in the year 1962. In the still existing station building now houses a hotel and restaurant.

Of the nine seats in the municipal council voters Community KWG since the municipal election 2008, seven seats and the voter community AWB two.
