BMN Painter

The BMN Painter was a designated a Notnamen Attic vase painter of the black-figure style in the third quarter of the 6th century BC

The BMN Painter initially worked for the potter Lydos. From the cooperation of both a band shell and an amphora are known. John Boardman sees in him not only the earliest time to be applied in employee potter Nikosthenes, but holds it for the best artist who has worked for this important Athenian potters. Their earliest work was a common Sianaschale and several minor masters shells, including one signed by Nikosthenes peripheral shell. The BMN Painter was the most important representative of the Bellerophon class. He was probably the painter who painted most of these Amphorengruppe, including the eponymous Amphora, is shown on the Bellerophon in the attack on the Chimera. The Notnamen giving the abbreviation BMN means British Museum and Nikosthenes and refers to the Namenvase with the inventory number B 295 of the British Museum.
