BMT Franklin Avenue Line

The Franklin Avenue Shuttle is one of the shortest lines of New York. He leads from the Franklin Ave to Prospect Park. And is the only line of New York, which is (partly) single track. The line runs 24/7, so around the clock. The Brooklynites ( people from Brooklyn ), the line is also known as Prospect Park Choo Choo. In the MTA, the line is also referred to as " S line ", to distinguish them from the other shuttles, of Rockaway shuttle ( line H ) and the 42nd Street Shuttle ( line 0).

History

In 1878, the route from the Brooklyn, Flatbush and Coney Iceland Railway was opened, which is the direct predecessor of the BMT Brighton Line. Initially this track was connected to the Long Iceland Railroad. In 1883 but was then on the Fulton Street Elevated (predecessor of the lines A and C) folded, which at that time operated by the Kings County Elevated Railway, but was later acquired by BRT. The Brighton Line was electrified with catenary in 1899 and until 1907 all intersections have been removed.

By 1920, the Brighton Line went according to plan on the Franklin Av. Line, but then a more direct subway line between DeKalb Ave and Prospect Park was put into operation. From Franklin Av but also went further direct trains to Coney Iceland until 1963, still practiced shuttle mode was introduced.
