In addition to the V8 Twin Turbo with High Precision Injection, the two-mode active transmission is the central component of the BMW Concept X6 ActiveHybrid. Due to the two-mode technology, the interaction of electric motors and internal combustion engine can be varied. Two modes are implemented: A mode is available for the start-up with high traction and lower speeds. The second mode is optimized for higher speeds.

The vehicle expands the BMW X models, currently consisting of the BMW X1, BMW X3, X5 and the BMW X6.
