BMW F 800 ST

The BMW F 800 ST is a motorcycle of the vehicle manufacturer BMW. The Sports Tourer has finally assembled from 2006 to 2012 at BMW plant in Berlin Spandau. Launch was in September 2006. The model number ST means road / touring. The successor of the K71 series is the BMW F 800 GT.

Specifications

The bike was on the F 800 S, the second models of the F - 800 series and is powered by a Rotax engine, the BMW and Rotax developed jointly. The development time from concept studies through to series production was 47 months. The F 800 ST is largely identical to the BMW F 800 S, but has a full fairing, a tourentauglicheren, higher handlebar, a higher disc, different tires and a standard rear rack and a more comfortable seat and a painted front fender.

Drive

The water-cooled two-cylinder engine produced from 798 cc capacity is rated at 62.5 kW ( 85 hp) and has a maximum torque of 86 Nm at an engine speed of 5800 min -1. The two 30-degree forward-slanting cylinder of the line engine have a bore diameter of 82 mm. The pistons of equal runner have a stroke of 75.6 mm and a compression ratio of 12: 1 in the cylinder head of the four-stroke engine rotate two gear transmission, overhead camshafts (DOHC ) that actuate rocker arms above two intake and two exhaust valves.

The two pistons of parallel twins simultaneously move up and down and have an even firing order. The firing interval of 360 ° maximum design has advantages in power and torque development. The first and second order mass balance is ensured by a centrally disposed on the crankshaft joint counterbalance system. The engine was produced by Rotax in the Upper Austrian Gunskirchen and delivered ready for installation in the BMW plant in Berlin.

The bike accelerates in 3.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h and reaches a top speed of 221 km / h

Power transmission

The primary drive via cogwheels. The force of separation is effected by a mechanically actuated multi-plate clutch in oil bath, the torque conversion by a Constant mesh six speed gearbox. As a secondary drive, BMW chose a toothed belt drive, as this virtually maintenance-free system had already proven itself in the touring bike BMW F 650 CS.

Electrical System

The starter battery has a capacity of 14 Ah and supplies the electric starter. The alternator produces an electrical output of 400 watts.

Fuel supply

The mixture is prepared by an electronically controlled fuel injection. A motor control ( BMS -K ) regulates the intake manifold injection on two 46 -millimeter throttle.

The average fuel consumption is 4.5 liters per 100 km. The fuel tank is located under the seat and has a volume of 16 liters, including 4 liter reserve. The manufacturer recommends the use of unleaded motor gasoline with an antiknock properties of at least 95 octane. The exhaust after-treatment is carried out by a fully controlled three - way catalytic converter and secondary air system drops below the limit values for pollutants emission standard Euro - third

Landing gear

The chassis is based on a bridge frame made of aluminum profiles and castings. The rear frame is made of steel tubing and is bolted at four points with the bridge frame. The rear wheel is sprung from a single swing arm made of cast aluminum with central spring strut. The front wheel is out of a telescopic fork with 43 mm standpipe diameter and 125 mm of travel. The engine is bolted to eight points with the bridge frame and has a load-bearing function.

At the front tire delayed a hydraulically actuated double disc brake with four-piston caliper, rear disc brake with a single-piston floating caliper. Was a standard anti-lock braking system supports the delay on both brakes. The ST weighs 209 kg ready to ride, maximum 194 kg must be delivered to load.

Accessories

An optional on-board computer was offered, which has a residual fuel and gear indicator as well as the coolant temperature, average speed and fuel consumption, current fuel consumption, range and ambient temperature displays.

Reviews

Nobert Kappes of the journal criticized motorcycle noise in the drive train with the words: " But just loosely attach the wrist in the sixth for overtaking, it does not work with the F 800. Switch is announced - and often accompanied by noises. Mostly, the gear changes are accompanied by a violent " clunk ". [ ... ] Whether or load changes in the shift operation, always klonkt and klackert it, as would be plenty of clearance between the gears. "BMW met the criticism with technical modifications to the drive train.

" But especially like the enormous ease and agility with which the F 800 S and - in particular the F 800 ST can be steered around bends of all kinds - thanks to the slightly higher and broader tube handlebar. There are not many bikes on the market, which can cause a similar amount of cornering fun. This has - in addition to sophisticated technology and weight distribution - even the low absolute weight ".

" The F 800 drives like a normal, well balanced and quite handy motorcycle. The magnificent engine is in a magnificent chassis. Had in recent years sometimes get the impression that BMW unusual technical solutions has often chosen as an end in itself, one can in the F 800 be pretty sure that were involved in the development of not only technology horny engineers, but also avid motorcyclist.
