BMW K 1200 GT

The BMW K 1200 GT is a motorcycle of the German manufacturer BMW AG. The Sports Tourer is characterized by a powerful motor, good wind protection, comfortable riding position and a good chassis. GT stands for Grand Tourismo and symbolizes associated with high touring comfort for the crew according to BMW refined sportiness. The model code of two generations loud K41 and K44.

History and Technology

From the BMW K 1200 GT, there are strictly speaking two completely different bikes. The first version was based on a virtually identical BMW K 1200 RS. This model was introduced at the Intermot 2002.

This version had the longitudinally installed in-line four -cylinder engine ( Flyingbrick called ) and was supplied as standard with integral ABS FTE automotive. The main differences for BMW K 1200 RS are: a ( electrically adjustable ) higher windscreen, flares on the body in the hand and leg, as well as standard painted in body color side cases. Production stopped in 2005.

The K 1200 GT delivered from 2006 is a completely new bike. What remains are only the name and the philosophy behind Grand Tourismo. Behind the much more angular bodywork conceals the transversely mounted four-cylinder engine of the K 1200 S and K 1200 R series, this is designed for more torque and less peak power. In addition, this model has the partial integral ABS from Continental Teves (without brake booster ).

The second generation of the K 1200 GT was replaced by the end of 2008 by the BMW K 1300 GT.
