BMW Welt

The BMW Welt is a combined exhibition, delivery, experience, museum and event facility in close proximity to the BMW Headquarters in Munich. It was built from August 2003 to the summer of 2007. On the roof of a solar system with 800 kW is installed. The opening took place on 20-21. October 2007, after it had originally been planned for the 2006 World Cup.

History

End of the 1990s, the Management Board of BMW AG decided to build a distribution center. As the location Oberwiesenfeld in Munich- Milbertshofen was chosen. It was announced an architectural competition. 275 architects have submitted their proposals. A jury of experts has approved 28 of these proposals for a competition. The construction preparations began in August 2003 with the demolition of the former BMW Olympic Park house and the excavation of the 14 -meter-deep pit. The foundation stone for the BMW world took place in the presence of the then Prime Minister of Bavaria Edmund Stoiber and the Mayor of Munich, Christian Ude, on 16 July 2004.

On 28 March 2010, the BMW world could by its own account the five millionth visitor, welcome the ten millionth visitor on July 4, 2012.

Construction

In the brand world vehicles of the brands BMW, MINI, Rolls- Royce Motor Cars and BMW Motorrad Motorsport, innovation and technology are exhibited.

The BMW Welt is in close proximity to the corporate headquarters, the BMW Museum and the BMW plant in Munich.
