BMW X3 ( 2003-2006)

The BMW X3 (internal designation: E83 ) is a compact SUV of the German automaker BMW. The "little brother " of the X5 with the models E53 and E70 was later presented at the IAA 2003 and is since January 2004 on the market. Magna Steyr designed and built at the factory in Graz the X3.

In the Euro NCAP crash test in 2008, he received in the assessment of occupant safety four star (28 points) and with child safety four stars out of five (39 points). The pedestrian safety has been classified with five points and one of four possible stars.

Production of the BMW E83 ended on 31 August 2010. Overall, 614 824 vehicles were produced. The successor F25 is produced at the BMW Spartanburg plant held at Magna Steyr.

Motors

The models are differentiated according to capacity and engine type. The number indicates the approximate engine displacement in liters, while the letter for the motor type (i = gasoline engine, d = diesel) is.

All models are equipped at the factory with the xDrive all-wheel drive that splits the forces of the engine as needed between the front and rear axle.

Since August 2008, all X3 models were similar to the BMW models, which are equipped with xDrive, designated " xDrive " attached thereto and the engine specification. Unlike before, the displacement is no longer correctly specified, but is based on the designation of the other manufacturer models. The X3 3.0 sd example, henceforth called xDrive35d.

Facelift

On September 23, 2006 saw the E83, the revised version.

It small details at the headlights, the double kidney grille, the front bumper, the rear lights, the rear skirt and especially the controversial interior were changed. With the exception of the four-cylinder gasoline engine, the engine range has been revised, most recently in the fall of 2009, the 2.0 diesel engine. Another engine that 3.0sd with twin turbochargers, has been introduced.

End of August 2010, production of the E83 was terminated.

Since September 2008, the Exclusive Edition and Lifestyle Edition are available. The M-Sport package is complemented in March 2009 by the Limited Sport Edition.

Design

The X3 is only slightly smaller than its big brother, the X5 ( E53), and offers ( measured to the window edge ) even a larger 20 liter luggage compartment (480 liters). Thanks to its compact dimensions, it seems more sporty and less brawny than its big brother X5.

Sales

In 2005, BMW sold 20 percent more than in 2004 X3, which the sales volume was 110,700 vehicles. On 18 June 2008, the 500,000 th X3 in Graz rolled off the line.
