BMX Bandits (film)

BMX Bandits ( Alternative title on TV and in the GDR: The BMX gang ) is an Australian action comedy by Brian Trenchard -Smith from 1983 and starring David Argue, John Ley and Nicole Kidman. .

Action

The young PJ, Goose and Judy live in Manly in Sydney, where just makes a spectacular bank robbery headlines. All three try to raise money for a BMX track in order to create their club a training ground. The three find a pack with radios that they sell without knowing that it is police radios. As it turns out, are the devices of the gang which has committed the bank robbery and a further plans. The two gangsters chasing PJ, Goose and Judy, who can escape on their BMX repeatedly. The police are looking for now, even after the young people, because they believe that they have stolen the radios. Meanwhile, the leader of the gang makes his henchmen more and more pressure as the police now draws more and more suspicion. When the police arrested the three friends and the radio gets back to the three to be released with a sharp warning. Hardly in freedom Judy is kidnapped by the criminals. They require the radios as a ransom. Since they no longer have the radios, Goose and PJ call together all BMX propelled children of the city, to fool the criminals with an incorrect packet, which they have been prepared in advance so that Judy has had enough time to Escape. As the criminals want to see through the trick and Judy do something, the other children show up and attack the men. As the criminals flee, Goose and PJ can jump on the truck and causing an accident at the site of the accident is shrouded in extinguishing foam and the criminals are fixed. After the criminals were arrested, the Bank donates to young people, the long-awaited BMX track.

Reviews

The criticism of the British "Empire Magazine" pointed out that Nicole Kidman demonstrate their talent in the film. The action was described as " too stupid to describe them" ( " the plot is far too silly to explain").

The lexicon of international film wrote, BMX Bandits was a " professionally -made children's film, which is to promote the sales of BMX bikes in the first place ."

Awards

The film received four nominations for the 1984 Australian Film Institute Awards, including for the screenplay for the cut and for David Argue.

Production background

Nicole Kidman starred in " The BMX gang" her first role in a feature film.

In the credits and the last section is " Kangaroo Heart" by Colin Stead to hear or "BMX Bandits " by The Papers. Both variants are named in general, but my same song. The original title of the piece is, however, " Ready to Fly " and is from The Papers.

Publication

The film was a huge success in the cinema of the GDR.

The film was released in German-speaking in 2006 on DVD. As a release date for a DVD re-release as well as a first-time Blu -ray release in the German-speaking countries March 7, 2014 has been announced.
