BNFL

British Nuclear Fuels plc ( BNFL short ) was a state-owned British company that provides products and services offered in the nuclear fuel cycle. Since May 2009, BNFL has no business itself.

The spectrum included, among other

  • The planning and design of nuclear reactors
  • The production of fresh fuel assemblies ( in the Springfields )
  • Manufacture of MOX fuel ( in the SMP plant at Sellafield )
  • The reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel ( in the THORP and B205 at Sellafield )
  • The decommissioning and demolition of nuclear power plants under the supervision of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority

BNFL employed 23,000 employees in 16 countries.

In 1998, BNFL nuclear division of Westinghouse Electric Company Westinghouse Electric Corporation. On 6 February 2006, the Japanese company Toshiba signed a contract with BNFL after Toshiba for $ 5.4 billion BNFL USA Group Inc. and Westinghouse Electric UK Limited and therefore the nuclear division of BNFL acquires 100 percent. This Toshiba is the world's largest producer of nuclear power plants.
